Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP)

The Alderton Parish Council Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) was prepared by local volunteers working alongside the Parish Council, with support from Tewkesbury Borough Council and planning consultants Kirkwells. The Plan was developed to help shape future development within the parish and ensure that local views and priorities are reflected in planning decisions.

Neighbourhood Plans give communities the opportunity to influence where development takes place, what it should look like, and how it should integrate with the character of the local area. While an NDP cannot prevent development entirely, it forms part of the statutory development plan and is used when determining planning applications.

Referendum Result

The Alderton Neighbourhood Development Plan was supported by residents at referendum in June 2018, with over 98% of those voting voting in favour of the Plan on a turnout of 59.6%. The Plan was subsequently formally “made” and adopted as part of the development framework for the area.

The Role of the NDP Today

The Alderton NDP remains in force and continues to:

• Help guide planning decisions within the parish
• Protect the character and identity of the village
• Support appropriate and sustainable development
• Secure the parish an increased 25% share of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) receipts

The effectiveness of neighbourhood plans can however be influenced by wider national planning policy and Tewkesbury Borough Council’s current housing land supply position.
